My Fellow Parents!
On the last day of school our children brought home a nice little surprise letter stating that all of our children would be subjected to a dress code. Apparently they conducted a survey and they said most parents want a dress code at L.E.S. I did not receive this survey nor did many parents I have already talked to. The school only has the right to enforce a dress code if the majority of parents want it. The majority of parents do not want a dress code and the way to prove that to the governing board of L.E.S. is to sign this petition.
The principal states that all the teachers are for a dress code. This is simply not true as I have talked to a couple of teachers directly and they did not like the idea of a dress code however they felt pressured into voting yes. I also know one person on the governing board and that person also felt pressured into voting for a dress code.
Our new principal (Karen Moore) comes from Pierre Elliot Trudeau Elementary School were she had a direct involvement in implementing the dress code there. The replies I got from Karen by e-mail clearly state that she is in favour of this dress code and will do all in her power to enforce it.
We the parents of the children that attend L.E.S. say NO! to this ridiculous dress code that was pressured into effect without a properly conducted survey! This is your chance to add your voice to ours and stop the school from VIOLATING our right to the freedom of expression.
L.E.S. is a public school where our kids have the freedom to wear what they want as long as the clothing does not disrespect the school, teachers, society etc. What they want to do is turn all our children into clones by making everyone wear the same colours every day.
Society forces us to do many things most of us do not want to do. Let us not put our kids in that situation while they are so young. Join us and say NO! to the 2009/10 L.E.S. dress code!!
The momentum we have built proves that Karen Moore cannot sneak this dress code past us anymore. She thought we would sit by silently while she forced her agenda on our children but she was completely wrong.

Total nonsense. The school has better things to focus on than what shirt my son wears to class.

The teachers I talk to hate this idea. bullying them into a vote is low.

Why are they rushing this through?? The lack of transparency is honestly really sketchy.
