NOORDWYK CHILDREN DESERVE SAFETY WALKING TO AND FROM SCHOOLS!

Children, residents, parents and teachers of Midrand Primary School would like effective traffic calming measures in place around the suburb, but in particular in Poplar and Karree Streets.

1. Effective traffic calming measures are needed along the entire length of Poplar Road - particularly around the entrance to Midrand Primary School and Diapers & Dummies Playschool
2. Effective traffic calming measures on Karree Street (opposite Midrand Primary School) so that they can be protected on both entrances to the school
3) The current traffic calming measures on Poplar Road are hopelessly ineffective. Motorists simply disregard the fact that children cross these roads either on their way to or from school. We need to ensure that a fatal accident can be prevented.

As a result, residents call upon our Ward Councillor, Cllr Madeleine Hicklin, to ensure that we be considered for the implementation of effective traffic calming measures. We call on the Joburg Roads Agency and the City of Johannesburg to address the concerns of residents and learners - particularly in the streets mentioned above.

Suggestions include a combination of:
1. Corrugated speed bumps
2. Rumble strips
3. Elevated stop streets

These need to be constructed as a matter of urgency - for the sake of our children.
