South Shore High School has been part of the community for the past 70 years, you take that name away, and you diminish the South Shore community. The Community and the High School belongs together!

Why are you so willing to wipe away my history. I won a major art award while in high school. Like in Africa you want to erase a peoples history!

People innately are too often negative to change. Although I understand why Alumni's are partial to the name and significance of South Shore High School, let me offer food for thought to their opposition. I graduated from Loop College years ago. Loop College was also symbolic of the area in which it was housed. However, following the death of the first African American Mayor of the City of Chicago, the Honorable Mayor Harold Washington, the name Loop College was changed to Harold Washington College. Consequently, my Associate Degree reflect Loop College and the College's name now reflects otherwise, I (along with others) survived that change. Therefore, I'm only suggesting openness to change, which is also tantamount to social and cultural advancement.

Please don't change the name! Can you find another school or charter school that Rahm has opened? Or going to open? No Disrepect to Dr. Burrell.

I do not support a name change for this great school. Wilkie Barrow was a hateful person, a non inclusive person.. I'd rather see the school named for an illustrious alum like Larry Ellison of Oracle fame, or James Watson, the south shore resident who went on to discover DNA and is active in the science world. I'll never forget meeting him. He lived on Luella at 79th street. These are men that the students should aspire to be like.

We cannot allow decades of history to be erased. South Shore High School has helped shape me to be the man that I am but it's also part of my life and community. To change the name would be like we never existed. I believe there's other ways to honor Dr. Willie Barrows accomplishments and achievements but I don't think she would agree with what's being proposed.

There's a legacy to preserve and a land mark to protect, that's why the name means everything and more.

I'm opposed to changing South Shore High School's name. It's iconic to the South Shore community and to ALL of its past graduates !
