I'm an alumni of 2004. It's an insult to change the name of the school.

As a Proud and Mighty graduate of South Shore Community Academy, class of 1990, I strongly oppose the re-naming of my dear Alma Mater! Please respect the wishes of the Alumni who seek to preserve the great institution that made us who we are! May the words of our hallowed hymn ring loud and true: "School of our dreams SOUTH SHORE, SOUTH SHORE...THY name we'll praise FOREVERMORE!"

While I believe that Rev. Willie T. Barrow served as an important member of Chicago's history, I believe that there are other ways to honor her memory and legacy. I think that the school's name should remain reflective of the community.

I'm conflicted as a Notable Alumni of South Shore High School (as per wikipedi) and a member of the 1972 Blue/Green Division Champions I am on one hand ambivalent since our 1971 Runner-up and 1972 Championship plaques were discarded and SSICP took great pains to sever the ties to the "Old" South Shore. I could care less about the change, but then part of our problem is we have no historical perspective. So if we keep the change we should also keep the history and that means welcoming the fact that a Noble Prize winner and discoverer of DNA is a South Shore alum, that the Founder, CEO and one of our nations richest is a graduate of South Shore. Way before the late 90's and early 2000's South Shore was more than a dumping ground for CPS.

What is the benefit for changing the name? It's totally absurd & I disapprove this change!! I'm sure there's other schools within her Church community that could be renamed and/or benefit from this change.
