I would hope that the name would remain South Shore International College Prep. That would maintain continuity with the graduates of South Shore High School which opened in 1940 and remained the backbone of the community until the wonderful new high school building was constructed.

The name South Shore High School encompasses a broad and far reaching community of alumni. And, to rename our high school in midstream seems foolish and not taking into consideration its uniqueness and those who have attended SSHS. Today is a time of naming every building that stands, and it seems that now, to change the name lessens the importance of its educational impact as a distinguished public high school.

Whoops , didn't finish ! I'm sure that Willie T Barrow was a wonderful person and made many positive contributions to Chicago , but a lot of people did ! Fine , honor them , but don't rename schools after them . The school already has a name , and, a good one that links the school to the neighborhood. Renaming the school is an inferior idea presented to appease a group friends of Barrow ! Honor her in some other way . The Willie T Barrow Museum of Science and Industry, The Willie T Barrow Aquarium, Rename Grant Park after her , but not something as sacred or important as a school . Bruce Mitchell South Shore High School January 1955.

There is no reason to change the name of South Shore. It has a log history of representing the neighborhood ands hold not be changed on a whim because of a local school council that will be changed in a few years.

As a graduate of the Jan. Class of 1955, I am opposed to the name change. I'm sure Ms. Barrow was a fine lady, BUT her long term affiliation with Operation Push and Jesse Jackson does not reflect well on the high standards and legacy of South Shore High. If you look in the trophy cabinets, you will find a plaque from the U. of Chicago recognizing the academic excellence of our class. Also, thanks for recognizing Mr.Watson and Mr. Ellison.

I oppose changing the name of South Shore High School. If a school is to be named for the Rev. Barrow I would suggest picking a school near 50th and Drexel like Reavis Elementary or another nearby school. Rev Barrow to my knowledge did not live or work in the South Shore area or attend the school as a student or faculty member.

I respectfully submit that the name NOT be changed. South Shore HS can boast a proud and long history of many accomplished and talented graduates. To remove/replace that name now would not be appropriate, disrespectful of the South Shore legacy.

Our alma mater has not moved out of the neighborhood. It is still South Shore & has a wonderful history. It should retain the proud, respected, well known name of South Shore.
