We, the parents and teachers of SLCUSD, petition SLCUSD to cease the use of toxic pesticides on all of its school sites. In March 2015, the World Health Organization declared that glyphosate, the active ingredient in RoundUp, probably causes cancer in humans. Despite this grave warning, SLCUSD continues to spray RoundUp(glyphosate) and 2,4-D in places where our children learn and play.

The Irvine Unified School District, banned the use of glyphosate, and 2,4-D in May 2015. Since then, IUSD created a new Progressive Pest Management (PPM) Playbook, Policy, and Organically Focused 2017-18 Pesticide List. They are now organically maintaining all 44 IUSD sites. See http://www.nontoxicirvine.org/ for detailed information.

We demand SLCUSD protect our children and ban the use of toxic and carcinogenic pesticides and switch to proven, and cost effective organic landscaping.

Updates

August 12, 2018

I am currently gathering evidence on alternative maintenance practices used by other districts to present at the next board meeting. Email your school representative today to demand they review these safer options. Post this link on your Facebook page so more families see the risks we face.

The momentum behind this push is undeniable. Now we need to turn this energy into action by sending these petitions directly to the board members. Email your district representative today and demand they adopt an organic policy immediately.

My son has enough allergies as it is without the school spraying poison on the grass where they eat lunch. Stop this now please.

I'd rather have a healthy child play on crabgrass than have a sick child who can't play at all.

Get flourescevt lighting out of the classroom also. It’s precipitating headaches and eye strain as well as many other issues .

Toxic pesticides around children? Frustrating that this requires a petition. So obvious!

There are more sustainable practices available that are healthier and can create a more engaging landscape for the kids.
