The undersigned RESIDENTS AND FRIENDS OF THE NORTH MISSION NEIGHBORHOOD have multiple concerns about the new ramp being built at MARKET and McCoppin: (1) Keep Trucks Off the New Ramp. Most of the neighborhood immediately surrounding the ramp is residential, with small streets and tight turns. There isn\'t enough room for trucks to maneuver and the pollution from the diesel fumes and the brake particles are dangerous to those of us who live next to the highway. Please keep trucks off this ramp. Trucks can continue to use the 11th Street ramp. (2) Insure Our Safety Under the Highway. Residents are concerned about unused spaces under the freeway. While these need to be \"activated\" by the creation of public spaces or recreational areas, there is an immediate need for lighting and security measures. Please address pressing safety concerns as we wait for more permanent recreational uses. (3) Keep the North Mission Clean. We are concerned about the lack of on-going trash pick up and graffiti removal. One alternative to removing the graffiti might be to sanction a mural on the overpass. In any event, CalTrans and the City should develop a maintenance plan to keep our neighborhood clean and beautiful. (4) Keep Elgin Park Closed. This narrow, one-block street is entirely residential. Since it closed for the construction of the new ramp, it is much safer and has created a sense of community amongst residents. Residents love having Elgin Park closed to through traffic. Re-opening the street will make it dangerous, with traffic diverted off Market onto our narrow street. It will only be a matter of time before a pedestrian is run over. Residents of Pearl St also like having Elgin Park closed, as cars used to speed down Pearl, and around the corner to Elgin Park as a cut-through back to Duboce Ave. Please keep Elgin Park closed. The construction is ending and the ramp will open very soon. We expect immediate response to our concerns, and on-going attention to these issues. Sincerely, Residents and Friends of the North Mission Neighborhood

I have spent my mornings walking past the construction site and it is clear that our neighborhood is already struggling with the changes. While city officials have remained quiet regarding our request for safety measures, your stories about the risks to our children and quiet streets keep me focused on this fight.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not the only person in this neighborhood losing sleep over these traffic plans. It feels like the city is finally starting to notice that we refuse to let them gamble with our safety.

Living right by McCoppin is a nightmare already with the noise. Adding big trucks into the mix makes it way worse for everyone here.

Total mess. Graffiti everywhere and trash is just piling up. Do your jobs CalTrans.

Please no trucks on this ramp. My apartment shakes every time a heavy vehicle goes by on the street. It is way too tight for them.

Use the 11th street ramp for trucks. Why are we forcing them through a residential neighborhood? makes zero sense.

The area under the freeway is super sketchy at night. We need lights there like yesterday before something bad happens.

Keep Elgin Park closed!! It has been so much quieter and safer for the kids since they shut it down for construction. Don't take that away from us.
