Attention all Arizona Voters:
Please join the Arizona Automobile Hobbyist Council's fight to stop "Fee Based Managed Lanes" or Toll Roads in AZ. We have been fighting ADOT's plans to implement these "Toll Roads" for the past 4 years since they announced their plans at a Maricopa Association of Government meeting in April 2013. The announced plans stated the cost of implementing the cameras and sensors along Maricopa County Freeways was $3 Billion and the planned price to use the Freeways was $.50 per mile during Rush Hour. The real kicker to this plan is that the cost of construction and administrating the "Toll Roads" is so great that the plan will lose money and the taxpayers will have to subsidized the the "Toll Roads". Our exact wording is:
“Prohibit the conversion of
existing publicly funded or maintained roadways into fee based managed lanes or
any form of toll roads.”

Toll Roads in Chicago in the early 1970's was supposedly a 10 year plan to pay for road/ highway improvements. They are still in effect today as the government realized what a cash cow this program is!
No toll roads. We do not want another tax in particular one that can not pay for itself.

We are one of the last bastions of toll-free roads in the USA.....Gas Tax is more than enough to maintain roads. All of our cost of living will go up, only the rich will use them, the common folks will not win out on this.
Really! What a stupid idea. Count me out. I live on a piece of crap dirt road not maintained by the county. However my property taxes don't reflect that.
a simple check of toll roads in other cities will convince people not to do this

Toll roads are incredibly undemocratic. They take a resource that we all paid to build and restrict it to those who can pay more for the privilege of driving. I can afford to pay, but what about those who can't? Should a single mother who is struggling financially be forced to take side roads because she can't afford 50 cents per mile?
