We the signatories to this petition, believe that the proposed power station and LNG storage in the port and detached mole area is an ill conceived idea which should not be built in an area with such a high population density.

The proposed power station and LNG storage would only add to the inherent risks associated with being next to a cruise terminal and airport, and further negatively affect the already reduced quality of the air in the area.

We the signatories also understand and appreciate that the building of a power station is a pressing priority, however we do not believe that such a power station should be built in the midst of such a large populated area in which it is proposed. We also understand that although this Government may want to introduce LNG bunkering as a means to bolster the local economy, we do not believe that this should be carried out where it adds to the risks of a highly populated area, and thought should perhaps be given to relocating such a venture to the eastside, where there are numerous disused tunnels which were onced used to store fuel safely.

As a Scientist I am not convinced. Gas power stations in the UK are not near densely populated residential areas. It may not be a problem at first but what happens later on when corners are cut to save money?

I have worked on LNG plants for many years. The world has changed and we now have to put up with the very real threat of terrorism. Don't do it, it isn't worth it.

Gibraltar is too small to have any LNG at a safe distance from residential populations.Additionally there are no Environmental impact assessments for the diesel only scenario except in the very short term and they show significant impacts to residential areas close by.

It would be a huge mistake to build this plant a few metres away from a heavily populated area which not only comprises of residential neighbourhoods but also a hospital, an airport, a cruise liner terminal as well as several schools.

I accept the risk is low, but if there is an accident the explosion cannot be contained and would kill many. Diesel fires can be contained as we have already experienced therefore is safer. Nothing is 100% safe. Ask the residents of Fukushima, Japan.

I believe that the proposed location for the power station and the LNG storage constitutes and unnecessary risk to the health and safety of 8000 or so residents that live in this area of Gibraltar.
