No to developer-driven HALA upzones

Want to increase density in Seattle and remove a major homeless headache at the same time? Upzone the Jungle.

It does feel as if our city officials are looking out for interests other than those folks called regular citizens. I'm so sick of policies catering to greed.

Keep single family residential zones intact; the City needs to devise other incentives to create affordable housing and not on the backs of single families.

NO, NO, NO on the up zoning. We have enough damage done already by buildings out of character that are not even close to providing "affordable" housing.

A petition against something that personally negatively affects your existing way of life is easy to put up and get a zillion votes. In fact, you can win presidential elections on this premise, and I don't make that comparison lightly without really meaning it. But preserving the status quo for density in close-in neighborhoods isn't a reasonable solution similar to how coal jobs shouldn't be saved for the sake of preserving the status quo of Appalachia. I wish the petitioners would step back and think about how the city is a system. HALA is a great and admirable negotiation between various parties that many advocates from many sides in many cities are hailing as a great achievement. Rather than signing a petition denouncing a specific action it takes, I suggest creating a petition with an alternate plan that would better solve the problems at hand. I would be really interested in reading it and I think our politicians would be too.

Wouldn't it be nice if the mayor and city council could not be bribed and blackmailed by the developer's money.

The 6%(?) required for "affordable" units or funding for units elsewhere is not enough. Entire buildings housing students and young adults will be destroyed and will be replaced with just a few units, and they may not even be in the neighborhood. Where are the students supposed to live in the future with this plan? This is the *University District*.

Please respect the neighborhoods and reject the HALA upzones.

All residents of Seattle must be included in the plan to accommodate greater density. HALA upzone are a plan to steal our neighborhood and push middle class people out of Seattle.

This is just housing for Amazon employees that makes millions for developers, while the costs are paid for through levies. Meanwhile schools are overcrowded, infrastructure is inadequate for the growth, and developers aren't paying anything to build affordable housing. Impact on the homeless will be zero. Knock it off.

This needs to be done with proper planning and with environmental impact studies...not they way it was offered!

Enact rent control rather than destroying neighborhoods and making it impossible for people to stay in existing homes.

Stop trying to destroy affordable housing in order to save it. That concept didn't work in Viet Nam, either!

We must stand together to oppose HALA - a developer driven plan that primarily benefits developers and degrades the quality of life in Seattle's neighborhoods. Developer campaign contributions to the City's elected officials have undermined democracy in our community. It is not a plan to increase affordability or livability despite its claims.

HALA upzones will incentivize developers to destroy the most affordable housing in our city. Our city government should be defending residents against the onslaught of 1031 exchange motivated investor bidding wars that only encourage "flipping" of properties and accelerates price increases. I never thought I would see the day when Seattle officials would defend the rights of the one percent against the needs of its citizen renters and homeowners, which is what HALA is currently all about.

Too much development!! Preserve our neighborhood character!!! No HALA upzones!!
