We do need to find solutions for affordable housing but not solely at the expense on current home owners and neighborhoods. It's already a problem with funding everything through property taxes--property taxes have reached a point where I can barely make my mortgage payment anymore.

I live in a neighborhood being ruined by these high rises... I saved my whole life to live in a single-family home neighborhood, and now it's being taken over by these ugly no-yard, block-out-the-sun and remove-all-the-trees buildings!

We need to look at models of affordable housing programs that have worked in other cities like Boston. And we need to leverage the great innovative and solution-oriented brainpower in our city. We can and must do better.

No Grand Bargain HALA. There have numerous studies published regarding existing zoning covering more than double what is needed. These SF homes and neighborhoods are vastly disappearing to developers who are only for profit. Once they are gone, they are gone for good. Protect our history and utilize the resources you already have (and then some)

We need to preserve the neighborhoods. All the big boxes are ugly, reduce the light around other homes, provide no parking. Additionally, it is appalling there are no impact fees to assist with the infrastructure costs like schools. Our children will suffer the most. The council seems to be for the developers and not our citizens. I will not be voting for our mayor or council members who vote for this and continue on this path.

While HALA was sold to us as making housing more affordable, so far it has gotten more expensive. The elimination of parking has added to making Ballard more expensive, and impossible for older people, for shopping, eating out, or any other activities.

There are other ways to increase the number of livable/affordable places to live without HALA. Think AUDs and In-law apartments in already existing houses. These AUDs or In-law living spots are affordable, and do not have the adverse effect on a neighborhood, as a HALA multiplex would. I've read reports in the media that thousands of these affordable living spaces exist in our neighborhoods. These should be encouraged by the City. Seattle City Council gets involved by their continued scrutiny of everything private in order to generate revenue.
All of us have witnessed smaller, older homes on large lots razed while a much larger out of scale house is built for 1 owner. I am in favor of an older house becoming 2 houses on a large lot for 2 families. The neighborhood is not forever changed. It would be with HALA.
