So basically we were assigned some physics assignment a few weeks ago. In this project, we have to teach ourselves new physics and apply it by building something complicated and abstract.
The requirements for the project are very thorough. For example, we have to record our progress each day and set goals for the next day. This project is graded and will take up a large portion of our fourth quarter grade.
The whole philosophy behind this project is to promote the student lens and introduce new learning, which is fine. The problem is: in addition to completing this abstract and difficult project in a short period of time, we also have to take a cumulative final. This goes against 21st Century learning, and is way too much work for Physics A students.
I would never expect a bunch of kids to learn something completely new and build something they've never done before within a few weeks in addition to studying for everything they learned that school year. That is unfair.

My phone has been buzzing nonstop since this morning and I am honestly shocked that so many of you feel the exact same way about this project. It is pretty wild to think that we all just wanted a little less stress but ended up starting something that clearly resonates with everyone here.

Thank you for posting this. It feels like we are doing double the work compared to the other physics sections.
the project is cool but doing it on top of a final is just overkill. give us one or the other.
Agreed. My grade is already hanging by a thread and this project is way more time consuming than he said it would be.
They can't get rid of the final they need it as a baseline comparison for standards based grading. The project is not that demanding and frankly its easier and more hands on than two extra units of physics. I don't understand why this is such a big deal. The midterm was arguably in a harder more demanding part of the year and there was the midterm project as well. This is constant from what we did in the second quarter project /w midterm now you guys are up in arms about project/report goals(1-3 sentences) /w final
The workload is absolutely insane right now. Nobody has time to build a full project and study for a cumulative test at the same time.
