The decision to allow Richard Spencer to speak on our campus on
Oct 19th troubles and saddens me greatly. Spencer, a known white nationalist with ties to overt neo-Nazis, has no place in an institution dedicated to learning, discourse, and engagement. The University’s calls for the respect of free speech and ‘wide range[s] of viewpoints’ ring hollow against the reality of giving a dangerous activist, for white nationalism, a platform.
UF really failed us on this one. My friends and I are actually terrified for that day, this has nothing to do with free speech and everything to do with hate.
