In 2003, the Lincoln County School Board contracted transportation to Mid Columbia Bus Co. They were told by Midco that they could provide all of the school district's transportation needs all while saving them money. The truth is, they are collecting millions of dollars (2015-2016 3.5 million) all while our children are riding on unreliable, most likely unsafe, buses with seat times of up to 2 hours each way due to their inability to hire and keep qualified drivers because of low wages and no affordable health benefits. Currently, they have approximately 80 drivers here in Lincoln Co., 33 of them have less than 1 year experience, and another 21 have less than 5 years experience. This is a direct reflection of a multi-million dollar for-profit company, and is in no way a reflection on the hard working drivers trying to do a difficult job, all while being paid a sub standard wage and no affordable health care. Our children and these drivers who care for them deserve better.
