We, the undersigned Humboldt State University students, staff and faculty, demand that HSU defund and abolish the Humboldt State University campus police. Overwhelming evidence supports the facts of campus police causing more harm than good. An overwhelming majority of students of color and LGBTQI2+ have reported feeling unsafe and victimized by HSU'S campus police. There is no statistically evidence that campus police has reduced instances of theft, violence against students or sexual assault.
As a replacement, we demand a student lead security team, a training program for RA's for situational diffusion, prevention of sexual assaults on campus, and emergency non-police responses to substance abuse and substance overdose.

Cops make me feel way less safe not more. Put that money into housing and student resources already.
there’s no reason to have funding for armed groups on campus when HSU fails to house all their students or address their mental health needs. This money should be going to one of any countless equity issues on campus instead
Campus police is as unnecessary as they are harmful to our student body. Resources should be reallocated to benefit the STUDENTS!
I am a CR student but when I eventually transfer from CR to HSU I would like to go to a university with progressive policies.
We need to defund HSUPD and reallocate those funds to US the students who need for psychology help, fund the health center so students won’t have to worry about paying anything, fund our programs not cut them, we students need our programs funded not sacrificed for the funding of the police department that did NOTHING for David Josiah Lawson. HSUPD didn’t even report his death. Who are they serving? Bc to me it looks like we students are funding their salaries.
