I am extremely concerned that creating a bike lane on E70th Street will have a significant adverse impact on the students of Manhattan High School for Girls. Although bike lanes are generally encouraged to promote fitness and well being, the dangers posed by the proposed bike lane on East 70th Street to the students of the school far outweigh any possible benefit. The school buses will be unable to park to pick up and discharge students; crossing the street by the students will be endangered by the fast moving bicycles creating a safety hazard. We urge you to reject the plan to place a bike lane in East 70th street as it will needlessly jeopardize the health and safety of the students of Manhattan High School for Girls.

I hope that the city will change their mind. There are way too many accidents every day involving bikers . We need to protect our students and the students who attend the college on the east 70 street. The city should choose a quieter block!

I appreciate your endeavoring to provide a bike lane across town, however, I believe that E 70th street would not be appropriate due to Manhattan High School for Girls being located on that block, off of Lexington. This would cause a hazard to the students of the school as well as to the bikers.

There is a school located at 154 E.70th Street which has been at that location for more than a decade. Having a bike line on that street would prevent the buses from safely dropping off and picking up the children. The safety of our children should certainly be a priority over a recreational bike lane. Furthermore, according to nycbikepaths.com, it seems that there are no bike lanes on the East Side from the FDR to Central Park except for the East 55th Street and East 89th Street. Surely you can find another street in that 34 block span to establish your bike lane, other than this particular block with a school of over 200 students, which would be a more suitable and safer alternative.

I wonder if the DOT even realized their is a school at 154 E 70th St. The location has no parking during school hours so buses can pull up and drop off students. If the city was to convert the roadway on 70th St to a bike lane it would be detrimental to the safety and welfare of the students there.
In the last four years, 35 students were hit by motorists passing stopped school buses in New York State. Every day nearly 50,000 motor vehicles illegally pass our school buses.
Did you know you can't even pass stopped school buses in the school yard if their stop sign is out?
Our children are the future. Keep them safe by following the rules of school bus safety.

E 70th is too narrow to safely accommodate both a bike lane and a school loading zone. As a cyclist I would not feel particularly safe even with a bike lane on this street.

My daughters attend this wonderful school and I am an avid cyclist. In this case the need for safe transportation for our schoolgirls overrides the need for a dedicated bike lane.
