The Department of Transportation plans to put bike lanes on E 70th St. in front of the school which we feel presents a very big safety issue for our students as well as an inconvenience for all activities that involve our school. Our buses may be unable to park in front of the school. Additionally, dismissal, deliveries, carpools, etc. will be all be adversely impacted with the proposed bike lanes.

We strongly urge everyone to sign this petition to veto the bike lanes.

I am truly overwhelmed by the number of people who have reached out to share their concerns about the safety of our students. This has become much larger than I ever anticipated and it is clear that the frustration reflects a deep care for our school community. I am just passing along the message that you all built yourselves.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum we have built together over the past few days. This response belongs entirely to those of you who recognized the danger to our students and took the time to speak up.

I believe the bike lane will inconvenience many activities that involve my daughter's school. It will also cause a safety issue where it will change the bus and carpools situation which impacts my daughter directly. For this reason I would like to veto the bike lane. Thank You

This already narrow street will become even more narrow causing an adverse traffic pattern on a street with a high school that provide busing.

E 70th is too narrow to safely accommodate both a bike lane and a school loading zone. As a cyclist I would not feel particularly safe even with a bike lane on this street.

My daughters attend this wonderful school and I am an avid cyclist. In this case the need for safe transportation for our schoolgirls overrides the need for a dedicated bike lane. Thank you.

To whom it may concern, The Manhattan High School for Girls on East 70th St is a community resource and academic treasure whose institutional quality of life and safety in my opinion would be detrimentally impacted by the proposed bike lane. Sincerely, Mrs. Miri Cohen

Our first priority as a society is to our children who are the future. While bike lanes are valuable, they do not belong on the block of a school. The safety and transportation needs of our children must always come before general leisure activities. Thank you.

Please do Not put the bike lane in front of the school. There must be more viable options, than exposing so many children to the constant risk of serious injury. There is a place for everything, and a bike lane right through the only (possible) daily passage of school children coming to and from school is inherently just wrong!

This bike lane would be a danger to my kids as they go to school there
