As a citizen concerned for the health and safety of the Short North, its residents and visitors alike, following the mayhem of numerous shootouts, illegally loud vehicles, and other disturbances of the peace in the summer of 2021, I object to the proposal to convert an existing rear residential patio and its adjacent accessible apartments into a bar at the 120-year-old building at 989 N High. I find the proposal for outdoor bar use in the rear/residential side of the building, which is in very close proximity to numerous residences, particularly troubling.
I wish to see the Short North turn back toward its roots as a thriving district that also respects the quality of life of its residents, and safety for all. Let us retain our existing residential spaces for residential use, and stop adding to what has clearly become an area oversaturated with drinking establishments, particularly those with outdoor patios. It is no coincidence that the chaos of the summer of 2021 all but ceased when the patios closed with the arrival of cold weather.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that my neighbors are just as tired of the noise and chaos as I am. It is exhausting to keep fighting for basic peace in our own homes but this level of support makes the struggle feel less lonely. We have a long road ahead before the city listens to us properly.

PLEASE listen to the residents! The noise is out of control and this will only make it worse. We deserve some peace in our own homes.
We need less drinking spots not more. Respect the people who actually live here.
It was so much quieter and safer this winter without those patios open. Please dont ruin our backyard space.
Total insanity. I cant even sleep on weekends because of the yelling and the cars. Do not let this happen.
Seriously? We deal with enough nonsense in this neighborhood. A bar right in the middle of our homes is a terrible idea.

Enough is enough. Living right there is already a nightmare with the noise and the crowds. Keep the bars on High St and leave us alone.
