If the only option for Singleton Council to continue into the future is with a combined 45% rate rise, then they should be amalgamated.

Once the increase is allowed "just for the four years" it won't be reduced after this time frame and rates will go up again

CPI is OK This rise highlights they cannot manage the money they get, easier just to raise more to hide they cannot control a set budget

Business has had to tighten their belts with the savage downturn, I and others have had to do the same since losing our jobs, council should do likewise. Look at alternatives, look at working smarter.

How can this increase be a good idea...... Locals are experiencing enough financial hardship as it is and our council want to make it even harder.

9.75% is too extreme. I'd be happy with 5% for 3 years and then back to cpi. Encourage more rates for big businesses such as mining and supermarkets.

It's expensive enough to live in singleton let alone them putting the rates up

Really, after the overblown wreck of a 'town upgrade' that nobody wanted except the councillors and the contractor? How wonderful to pay even more for the joy of dodging the potholes in the roads, and the suicidal intersection at Whittingham.

Singleton council you are kidding. You can't see you are living beyond your means and then expect residents to cop 9.75%. What is to stop you mismanaging that as well?

The extravagant spending on Singleton John St. does not justify this rate rise!

How ridiculous, with all the job losses in this area how many people are going to loose their houses too. Very disappointing!
