On July 1, 2015, the State ordered the nine state colleges and universities to stop paying collectively negotiated salary increments (salary steps) to faculty, librarians and professional staff. We, the undersigned, call upon the New Jersey City University Board of Trustees to make a commitment to justly compensate these employees. We call upon the Board to practice sound fiscal management and to set aside, in escrow, funds that shall make whole all employees due retroactive salary increments upon the conclusion of labor negotiations.

Reaching this milestone reinforces the importance of our collective request for fair compensation. It is clear that the commitment to these professionals remains a significant priority for our community.

Perhaps this seems to save money, but it is causing much confusion, and demoralizing everyone.

If you set aside the funds that we are supposed to get paid today (our salary increments) in a separate account, paying it back tomorrow (retroactively) will not be a burden. NJCU should not use these salary increment funds for any other purposes. Doing so will only complicate matters after the negotiations with the State are finalized.

I support this petition and retroactive salaries should be given once the contract has bee signed. There are many dedicated NJCU professional who uphold support NJCU's mission.

People go into teaching because they are willing to forgo more lucrative careers because they want to give back to others. However, that is no excuse for that giving nature to be taken advantage of. Honor your commitments!

NJCU has many talented employees. Falling behind on compensation will create an incentive for them to leave for more lucrative positions. Then, it will be harder to attract high quality employees.

If you want professionals to be committed to their work, you must be committed to paying them a fair salary.

Absolutely ridiculous. Tough to keep up with the increase in living costs!
