Fellow Classicists, Uites, and Nigerians,

Mr. Nigel Derek Henry was a quintessential teacher and a maker of men and women of note. He taught and produced many Nigerians, many of who have gone up to hold important positions in government and are still holding government positions. Many have captained and are still captaining industries, and many have gone up to become professors and others have continued in the craft of teaching, journalism, law, etc. He produced amazing Nigerians who continue to replicate the spirit and greatness that was Mr. Henry till today.

If you agree with me, then, we all owe this amazing soul a debt of gratitude and the following are not too much to ask for:

1. Honorary Nigerian citizenship by the Nigerian government, with his hometown and place in Nigeria being Ibadan;

2. Posthumous Doctor of Letters by the University of Ibadan

3. Naming either a building or the very road that leads to Mr. Nigel D. Henry's house after him.

4. A Nigel D. Henry Award for Best Graduating Student in Latin Literature - with seed money of 500,000 naira that will be deposited in a fixed deposit account and managed by the University of Ibadan.

5. Prevailing on Guinness Nigeria PLC, the producers of Guinness to accord one of their best and most loyal customers labeling - what's Corporate Social Responsibility about, after all?

On the Award, I will provide the sum of 250,000 naira. Join in the course. If we can raise the money to 1 million, it will be just fine. The modalities for ensuring that the award is forever are simple and I will set it up with UI.

Note that we are not giving any individual the money it is going to be a fund for UI to manage.
