We, as concerned members of the Nipissing First Nation community, recognize the vital need to foster a thriving and diverse business environment that celebrates entrepreneurship and inclusivity. Our goal is to petition for a temporary moratorium on Convenience Stores, Smoke Shops, and Cannabis stores, similar to the current pause on Gas Stations, not to stifle growth, but to cultivate a more balanced and sustainable economic landscape.

We acknowledge the positive strides in business development within our community, acknowledging the entrepreneurial spirit that has led to the establishment of various enterprises. However, the rapid development of similar business models threatens the success and livelihoods of existing entrepreneurs. It's crucial to ensure a fair and equitable marketplace where businesses can flourish without undue competition that hampers their growth.

By advocating for this temporary pause, we aim to redirect our focus towards fostering an environment where innovation thrives, encouraging diverse business initiatives that bring unique offerings to our community. Embracing diversity in our economic ventures allows for a rich tapestry of enterprises, contributing to a more resilient and vibrant indigenous economy.

Our intent is not to impede progress but to redirect our collective efforts towards a more collaborative economic strategy. We envision a future where our economic development embraces innovation, respects traditional values, and nurtures a supportive ecosystem where businesses uplift one another. This is an opportunity for us to exercise true self-governance, shaping our economic future in a manner that benefits all stakeholders and promotes unity within our community.
