RECENTLY, New Town management decided to REMOVE the freestanding flagpole and American flag from the NorthWest corner of Sullivan square. This decision was made without seeking the opinions of the owners of property in New Town, residential or commercial. The original location has been covered up by bricks and the tall silver flagpole has been dumped in the Hotel Site immediately to the west of the square.
The pole was removed, we are told, for two reasons: One: It was in the way during the Thursday night summer concerts that are held in Sullivan Square. Two: it may be re installed in the park located on Discovery Park Blvd. This park is to be the site of the new privately financed Veteran's Memorial Tower.
PLEASE SIGN this petition if you agree that New Town should restore the flagpole IMMEDIATELY to its original location. Surely we can have TWO flagpoles in our town one in the square and one in the Veteran's memorial park. Sullivan Square is a central point for our flag to fly and if you agree that this decision was incorrect. Please use this petition to tell New Town management that New Town should restore its flagpole immediately.
There are too many people fighting for our country. The least we can do is fly our flag NOW.
I never imagined this feedback would reach so many of you who care just as deeply as I do about our square. I am currently reaching out to management to ask why a concert schedule needs to come at the expense of our flag. Please know that your reactions to this change provide the strength needed to keep this conversation moving forward.

I am honestly a bit overwhelmed by the attention this has received. This momentum is entirely due to your willingness to speak up for our square. It blows my mind that so many of you care about this as much as I do.

My grandfather fought for that flag. Its honestly disrespectful to just dump it by the hotel like trash. Put it back up right now.

This is ridiculous. It belongs in the square where people actually see it. Put it back.
