Rice administrators have decided to discontinue newspaper subscriptions in college commons( New York Times, Houston Chronicle). The threat of economic hardships is nothing compared to the threat of becoming an ignorant society if we allow this change to happen. As an institution of higher learning, we need to support newspapers as a vital and necessary aspect of a thinking society. The minds they can change and the insight they share are worth much more than their relatively meager price tag. Save the newspapers! Sign the petition!

I was just sitting in the commons watching someone look for the paper and it honestly felt so wrong that it was missing. People keep telling me they actually read these during breakfast and it is just wild that the administration thinks we do not notice when things get taken away like this without asking us first.
