Help get another "interim" off-leash area in Ward Canyon - AND Finish The Plan for the permanent off-leash area.
A group of dog owners who have been using the now closed "temporary" large dog off-leash area on the far south side of Ward Canyon Park are proposing a new "temporary" area for the large dogs until the "permanent" design has been finalized and funded.
Chris Ward's office HAS allocated funds for the final proposal for the permanent off-leash area and community garden, but funding to build is not secured at this point in time. Please see this image for the current "plan." The permanent dog park will be located along the West side of the 15 - where the tow trucks usually park and the city is using to store road repair equipment. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&...
We are going to propose the following:
- leave access open to the existing "interim" small dog area
- fencing in the south grassy basin area of Ward Canyon Park for the larger dogs - see photo
- or other alternate area that will not disturb nearby residents.
The number of signers on this petition will be updated to the Park and Rec committees. The email addresses on this petition will be used once for an email with an update on the meeting held on October 22. It will include an Opt In button for further emails and a place for you to sign up to be on a committee to help persuade the City Council to more forward with the Final Plan.

I have 2 large dogs that love to go to the park. Is close by and we have lots of fun. To avoid dog fights or the larger dogs taking over the small dog area, it is a good idea to have a temp large dog area.
I support a dog park at Ward Canyon park. We aren't dog owners yet, but we are looking forward to it and I love walking by and meeting dogs (and my neighbors :) The nearby dog park was a big plus when we were house shopping, and I know I'm not alone in considering it an important amenity.
Every single day a child at Franklin Elementary steps in dog poop left by owners who use the joint-use field as an off-leash park. A legit park within walking distance of Kensington is a MUST.
I use this park every single day not only for my dog but for dogs I train and rehabilitate. This park’s proximity to my home is partially why I moved to this area. It is of the utmost importance to me that we fix this issue ASAP.
I love the new proposal! This is a better option for those who live next to the current park too. It will be less noisy for them
I am all for this neighborhood park that is fenced. There are very few parks that provide large and small parks that are fenced in for my beagle who loves to hunt
Dogs need a place to run freely! It calms them and relieves frustrations. Dogs that run, bark less! A happy dog is easier to handle. In Oakland dog parks are available and they even provide plastic bags! Why do we have so few provisions for our dogs? Don't they deserve a good life?

3 years is an insane amount of time to have no dog park. We need to establish an alternative on the site of the park to serve the dog owners like me who live in the area.
I have 2 large dogs that love to go to the park. Is close by and we have lots of fun. To avoid dog fights or the larger dogs taking over the small dog area, it is a good idea to have a temp large dog area.
