We, the undersigned residents of Braddock, Pennsylvania, are voicing our support for Bridging
the Gap Jr High Loft Apartments, a Black-owned business dedicated to developing
mixed-income housing in our community with a workforce development aspect built into the
project. This project aims to provide high-quality, accessible housing that serves individuals and
families from diverse income levels, which is essential for Braddock's growth and resilience.
Why Mixed-Income Housing?
Mixed-income housing helps to create a balanced, vibrant community by allowing residents from
various financial backgrounds to live and thrive together. It supports local businesses, fosters
economic diversity, and promotes neighborhood stability by encouraging long-term residents to
remain in Braddock, while also attracting new families and professionals who contribute to our
town’s economic health.

Braddock deserves quality housing that reflects our community’s needs, strengthens our local
economy, and creates an inclusive environment where everyone has an opportunity to succeed.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people care about the future of Braddock. This momentum belongs entirely to the community members who decided that inclusive housing was worth fighting for.

Braddock needs this bad. Seeing old buildings just sit there rotting is frustrating. Hope this happens soon.
YES! We need more affordable places for regular folks to actually afford to live in our own town.
This is a great project. I’d love to see that amazing old building reused and turned into something functional. Very important project for our neighborhood!

Considering such a mix income project in a poor, impoverished Black area with no infrastructure is generally not considered a wise strategy without SIGNIFICANT additional investments in Infrastructure development alongside any housing project. Doing so without any realistic community infrastructure could potentially exacerbate existing problems like Displacement and lack of access to Essential services, while not adequately addressing the underlying issues of Poverty and Lack of amenities in the community. Careful planning, due diligence, years of authentic expertise in mixed-income housing development and committed funding for community infrastructure are crucial to mitigate potential negative impacts. Reasons why it might not be wise: Lack of amenities, entrenched poverty and basic services: Without proper basic infrastructure in place like roads/sidewalks, police force, public transportation, grocery stores, superior educational alternatives, and healthcare facilities among other things, low-income residents of mixed-income housing will still face significant challenges in accessing basic needs, potentially leading to frustration and further marginalization. Such a project will exacerbate Gentrification concerns: Introducing higher-income residents to a low-income area without addressing infrastructure concerns will only accelerate gentrification, potentially displacing existing residents due to rising costs and changing neighborhood dynamics. While workforce development initiatives and commercial property may be on the first floor of such a housing structure, lower income folks in the building with little access to capital, employment, or any other guaranteed financial assistance will be unable to realistically take advantage of the commercial space. In turn, leaving those spaces for the higher income occupants, who may already have the means to secure investment or already have unlimited access to capital, to take full advantage of the c
