The NJ Baseball Coalition is a group of baseball programs, organizations and industry leaders formed to support youth athletes, coaches, umpires and baseball businesses.
We recognize how important baseball is and how it can be a key building block not only to our physical health, but to our mental health as well. Being part of a team helps build character, leadership and community. This is something we need now more than ever.
It is extremely important our baseball community feels safe returning to the field. Our goal is to provide a safe way to be able to reopen baseball.
According to Dr. Bhattacharya, with proper safety protocols, youth baseball and softball is the perfect place to start when thinking about resuming sports. The nature of baseball means players are already participating in social distancing while on the field. Dr. Bhattacharya stressed the importance of carefully thinking about how to best protect participants.
Reopening golf was a good first-step, but mostly affluent people play golf with a significant portion of them being retirees who are considered “most at-risk” for serious Covid-related complications. According to the National Golf Foundation, golfers 65+ played 3x as many rounds annually as those aged 18-34. The baseball ecosystem supports people of all ages (specifically 6-18) and socioeconomic classes.
Baseball is virtually a no-contact sport played outdoors and the sport should get the same chance as golf to open up safely
As Governor Phil Murphy said "Life in New Jersey does not have to come to a complete standstill. We want people to stay healthy, both physically and mentally." The signers of this petition believe that not allowing baseball to be played in New Jersey this summer will have a profoundly negative impact on the community's health, both physically and mentally. We also feel that this is a measure that will make our lives feel as if it has come to a complete standstill.
We ask the Governor to allow us to get back out on the baseball field safely. Some of the guidelines/rules include social distancing and safety measures on the field including limiting the number of players in the dugout at one time, asking the parents to sit 6 feet apart, no team coolers, no seeds/spitting, no handshakes or high fives and more. Full list of rules/guidelines to be posted here soon.

The numbers are just climbing so fast right now even though I have barely slept checking the screen every five minutes. Can you blast this link to your group chats or just text whoever might care because we really need that thousandth signature to show them we mean business.

I was just staring at the screen and realized we are hovering right near that hundred mark which honestly feels huge even though I know we need so much more than that for the people in the statehouse to actually care. If everyone reading this just grabs one other person who misses the game as much as we do maybe we can finally break past this plateau and show them we are not going anywhere.

I believe my self to be a responsible Parent and Citizen, with this in mind I truly believe that if safe practices/guide lines are followed and with the collaboration of all involved (players, coaches, spectators) the summer baseball season can be played.
My one kid missed his whole freshman high school baseball season. He will never get that back. My other boy is 12 and missed his last season of little league. Baseball is a summer game and if Golf and NASCAR are allowed so should Baseball.
If team sports will be allowed to reopen, baseball should be next. It's not a contact sport. Lets be smart about it and we can do it safely. Get the local leagues up and running at least. Lets have the kids play and the adults can wear masks.
We are a conscious and responsible group that will abide by the Stare’s Required safety regulations. No fans required, safe time between multiple games and temperatures scans before games. Thank you considering and supporting NJ Baseball
I believe there are safe ways to allow children to play baseball which is a predominantly contact-less sport. Especially High School Students who have lost their entire Spring season, they need this the most for their mental stability and physical health!
Let’s these kids play . You took away everything else from them.

How can camps be open, beaches, boardwalks, outside parties of 25 and inside parties of 10 but a team of 9 boys can't play baseball outside? They will go to school in September they should be able to play baseball this summer. Social distancing is possible.
