East Coast Youth Baseball are the organizers of youth baseball leagues and tournaments on Long Island.
We recognize how important baseball is and how it can be a key building block not only to our physical health, but to our mental health as well. Being part of a team helps build character, leadership and community. This is something these kids need now more than ever.
Reopening golf was a good first-step, but mostly affluent people play golf with a significant portion of them being retirees who are considered “most at-risk” for serious Covid-related complications. According to the National Golf Foundation, golfers 65+ played 3x as many rounds annually as those aged 18-34. Our program is for youth players ages 7-18.
Baseball is virtually a no-contact sport played outdoors and the sport should get the same chance as golf to open up safely
Life on Long Island does not have to come to a complete standstill. We want people to stay healthy, both physically and mentally." The signers of this petition believe that not allowing baseball to be played on Long Island this summer will have a profoundly negative impact on the community's health, both physically and mentally. We also feel that this is a measure that will make our lives feel as if it has come to a complete standstill.
We ask you Governor Cuomo to allow us to get back out on the baseball field.

Baseball is definitely a sport that can be played in a safe manner with all participants complying to new regulations in place. As I pass ballfields, there are children playing games recreationally not social distancing. We need to open up leagues so that the coaches, league directors, umpires and parents can ensure players are complying to guidelines. Opening up youth baseball will be much safer than what is going on now with no guidelines. The kids want to play and are just doing it on their own now which is not good with what's going on. Thank you for your time!
Baseball teaches the sport, discipline, getting along with others & gets them jnvolved in an organized environment. It can be done safely.
Hope we can start baseball it’s the only sport my son plays and it’s outdoors with restrictions for social distancing from players and fans
There has to be safe ways to resume some activities. And the most logical, safest places for that is outside, on an open field. Many children are no longer acting the way they did 2 months ago. They've lost the kids they used to be. They're faced with so many changes and a "deadly " virus. They're only means of socializing is through online gaming and social media. And too much screen time is so much worse than what we're facing. Kids are depressed. Let's get them back on the field, safely and give them the active lives they require and deserve.
If I can stand in a grocery store with NO distancing then kids can play baseball while apart from one another.

This can be done safely. The kids have been educated via screen and lost all that is typically associated with school. Lets not take away sports too.
