Started by Pakistani American Congress Dr. Ashraf Abbasi 10 years ago

Resolution to Recognize and honor Pakistani Legend and most celebrated philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi by naming New Islamabad Airport after him as " Abdul Sattar Edhi International Airport.

The Pakistani American Congress expresses profound grief and deep sorrow and places on record the appreciation and gratitude for unparalleled selfless services of Abdul Sattar Edhi provided to humanity as a philanthropis, social activist, ascetic, and most celebrated humanitarian of higher order of this century. He internationally known as the " Richest Poor man of Pakistan".

Today, his self-established Edhi Foundation provides services like adoption of abandoned infants, shelter for abused/mentally ill drug addicts, food kitchen for hungry and destitute, caring facility & services for elderly and orphans, working opportunity for women, maternity and family planning services, technical & religious education for street children, Nursing home, free clinics, women’s shelter, morgues & funeral services, Drug rehabilitation centers, legal aid to countless poor & innocent prisoners, and many more including the Edhi Foundation has held Guinness World Record for World’s largest volunteer ambulance organization since 1997.

This beacon of hope and angel of mercy willed to be buried in the same clothes he used to wear and also donated his body parts including his eyes as his last gift to humanity. He wishes his eyes recipient to to see the world with compassion, love & kindness.

Mr. Edhi’s untiring commitment to Human Relief Services within Pakistan and around the Globe have made not only each Pakistani proud of him but he earned a positive, soft and humanitarian image for entire Muslim Ummah. His distinguished and unprecedented contribution to Humanity will be long remembered with a sense of deep gratitude and reverence. We pray to Almighty to shower his infinite blessings on the departed soul with eternal peace in paradise and enable us to follow his footprints.

In conclusion, about 800 years ago the great Mevlana Jallaludin Rumi wrote:

“There is giving, and there is knowingness

Some have generosity and compassion but no true knowledge.

Some have knowledge but no self-sacrifice.

When both are present, that person is blessed and prosperous.

In the words of Legend Abdul Sattar Eidhi,

" My religion is humanitarianism which is the basis of every religion in the world ". And "no religion is higher than humanity"

Such a being is truly incomparable.” This was Edhi who gave a new meaning to life and set lofty standards for philanthropic work.

It is also resolved that this resolution be sent to the family members and workers of Edhi Foundation and recorded in the House proceeding.

Updates

July 13, 2016

I was looking at the old photos of Edhi sahab again last night and it really hits me how much he just got out there and did the work without asking for anything back. The silence from the airport authorities is starting to feel heavy but maybe that means they are actually reading these names because they cannot just look away forever. People keep mailing me about their own experiences with the foundation and it is honestly overwhelming to see how much one person built from nothing.

My only comment is that Baba Abdul Sittar Edhi, Baba e Qom, deserves any honour that you can think of.
