The City of Huntington Beach is not allowing any events in our small Neighborhood Parks at this time. The City's explanation of this is as follows : "Neighborhood parks are designed to serve the immediate community and are intended or drop in or first come-first serve uses and activities by the general public. The City is seeking to assure that all neighborhood parks are open and available to the general public. To that end, neighborhood parks are NOT available for reservation. Requests for special permits, which include vending, advertising, or activities events that restrict general access to any area of a neighborhood park, will not be approved.

We not only agree that the Moffett Park should be used by everyone, but we want to help promote the use of the Park as well. In hosting these neighborhood events, our intention is to include and connect with all our neighbors.

These events help make the Moffett tract the great and desirable neighborhood it is. While the City reviews these policies, please help us in our efforts to allow our future family-fun events at Moffett Park. We appreciate your understanding and support!

This is ridiculous. The movie in the park was FREE and open to EVERYONE. How does this go counter to serving the immediate community and open to the general public? There is plenty of park space available. Movies in the park help bring neighbors together and increases park usage. Why would this be against city values?

I was able to use Moffett Park just fine at the time of the last event, and I was not there to attend that event but enjoyed seeing how many in our fine neighborhood wanted to enjoy it. How can utilizing our park so fully be a bad thing?

I haven’t seen events at the park prevent anyone from using the park but have had great experience connecting with neighbors and these coordinated events are the catalyst.

I don't even live in the Moffett tract, but I think that movie night is a great idea for building community spirit. Come on HB, lighten up! This event is open to everyone just like the HB Summer Concert band series in Central Park.

Just looking at the above photo makes me want to go to a movie in the park! It reminds me of the good old days when we went to the drive-in. I don't understand why this type of community activity isn't allowed. It's not hurting anyone and is actually getting kids outside and away from their computers and phones. It's a wonderful family activity.

WE moved to Huntington Beach a year ago for the “small town” connected feel. We were lucky to catch a movie in the park last year and LIVED it. We don’t understand why this can’t cintinue. All are welcome and it builds a bond in the community.

This is embarrassing for the City of Huntington Beach and its residents. The City's explanation is nonsensical; events like our movie nights serve the immediate community in a variety of ways, many of which are more beneficial than just the park itself, and the events are open and available to the public, just as the park remains open and available to the public throughout the events. We moved here precisely because we saw a community capable of this kind of community-building activity. Other cities throughout Orange County get this right; Huntington Beach is getting this very, very wrong.

If the city wants to shoulder the burden of providing events like this, I’m happy to support them. But in the absence thereof, I will support anyone who is willing to enhance the family atmosphere we all desire. Thank you.
