Neighborhood Events at Moffett Park

This is embarrassing for the City of Huntington Beach and its residents. The City's explanation is nonsensical; events like our movie nights serve the immediate community in a variety of ways, many of which are more beneficial than just the park itself, and the events are open and available to the public, just as the park remains open and available to the public throughout the events. We moved here precisely because we saw a community capable of this kind of community-building activity. Other cities throughout Orange County get this right; Huntington Beach is getting this very, very wrong.

If the city wants to shoulder the burden of providing events like this, I’m happy to support them. But in the absence thereof, I will support anyone who is willing to enhance the family atmosphere we all desire. Thank you.

Please allow neighborhood events to happen in our neighborhood! We love movies in the park! Nobody is excluded and everyone benefits!

Pleez. It's a big park. Most HB parks encourage sponsored events. Nothing but positives from events like these.

This brings to community to the park so that we can all benefit and enjoy. It creates community....which is the whole point! Please allow this fun event and those similar to happen.

This is ridiculous. The movie in the park was FREE and open to EVERYONE. How does this go counter to serving the immediate community and open to the general public? There is plenty of park space available. Movies in the park help bring neighbors together and increases park usage. Why would this be against city values?

I was able to use Moffett Park just fine at the time of the last event, and I was not there to attend that event but enjoyed seeing how many in our fine neighborhood wanted to enjoy it. How can utilizing our park so fully be a bad thing?

Sad you can’t utilize a park for fun social events and if even allowed you need a permit for everything. Always need to charge for something. Can’t even have an organized or memorial surf paddle out without a permit..

We really enjoy neighborhood events in our local park, like movies in the park. It’s a great way to encourage and build on our sense of community and allow our kids to make new friends.

These events bring neighborhoods together, not deter people from using park! The parks are usually vacant during dusk as well, if anything it can in courage people to use the park more.

I haven’t seen events at the park prevent anyone from using the park but have had great experience connecting with neighbors and these coordinated events are the catalyst.

I don't even live in the Moffett tract, but I think that movie night is a great idea for building community spirit. Come on HB, lighten up! This event is open to everyone just like the HB Summer Concert band series in Central Park.
