We are calling on Wicklow and Wexford co councils to stop putting live at risk by not calling the nearest Fire Brigade to the call, at the moment if you call the Fire Brigade and give your address, the nearest fire brigade in that county will be called out not the nearest brigade to the fire , Carnew Brigade for example is 1 km from Co Wexford border, and Gorey is 15 or km , so if you live in Wexford and are 1 km or 6 km from Carnew Fire station you will get Gorey , to put it time wise Gorey fire brigade is 25 to 40 minutes ,at least from the Wicklow border , while Carnew Fire Brigade is 7 to 10 . Arcklow ,Dunlavin ,Bray , Blessinton are all borders towns and all have the same problem . It’s got to stop before some one gets hurt, or dies .We are a group of residents try to get support for a petition we have sent to Wexford and Wicklow Co Co . But still after a year have no response . We are trying to fight for a Fire service with no borders. At the moment the parish of Askamore Co Wexford is not covered by Carnew Fire Brigade who is less than six minutes from Askamore, but are covered by Gorey Co Wexford who are thirty minutes and more form Askmore .
In Feb of 2011 a local mans shed went on fire he rang 999 and told them his shed was on fire , but his shed was in Wexford ,so they sent Gorey even after telling them he was five minutes from Carnew Station , so he rang a Carnew Fire fighter who dispatched the fire Brigade. Carnew were twenty mins at least fighting the fire before Gorey arrived , Gorey with the best interest in the world are not going to make it to Askamore in less than twenty minutes , we have no problems with Gorey Fire service, we just want the closer station to cover our homes and schools at least untill Gorey get there.
