Murphey Candler Park Loop Road Petition

Please do not go forward with the Murphey Candler Park Loop Road Parking Project.

I have lived in Dunwoody for 42 years. The destruction of green space and trees and all the things that made her so desirable is appalling! Do the right thing by our citizens and preserve the few lovely areas we have left? Existing parks should not be destroyed, particularly to then build another in a more “convenient “ location. Parking should never be the priority. Cycle, walk, carpool, use Marta. There are lots of ways to reduce need for cement, but only one park.

I am worried that the loop road will create the same dangerous conditions that led to the closing of the road the first time.

I ask that the Council pause existing plans for the loop road so that the residents’ concerns can be appropriately addressed. I ask that the City revisit the loop road design so that the project can be scaled back to address the top concerns of protecting the safety of pedestrians and children and preserve the existing natural state of the park, by prohibiting vehicle traffic and parking on the loop road.

I vote against this loop road. Encroaching in this beautiful park is crazy! Why?? It's like it's being done just to do it. This is our park. Why erode this great habitat and great example of Americana?

Of course you vote them out, but that will be too late. Plus, remember they have their special interest groups that care only about one thing; and it is certainly not nature. It is football and baseball and pretty much nothing else and that is how they raise their kids to be, robots just like them. They metastasize like crazy and are the majority supporters. Only chance you guys have at stopping these greedy people and their supporters in office is that entire street + the rest of the neighborhood gets together and hires a high profile lawyer. Generally neighbors are pretty apathetic and useless in most of these cases but someone needs to pass out fliers and get them involved. This is why after being a life long fighter for the environment now; I encourage people not to buy creekside property (will wind up smelling like sewer lines. Example Peachtree Creek.) Or buy parkside property (will wind up taking the park and building in it and removing about half the green space/old growth adding cement giant playgrounds, zip lines, etc. example: BrookRuin.) Anywhere there is park-space in the south and after a subsection of a county forms it's own city; this is what usually happens. We have it on a smaller scale now at our other home here in Colorado that we are fighting for. Won't be dollywood, it will be Westworld.

I walk my dogs there because it is safe from cars. Please, Please, Please don't do this!!! It is one of the last places left in our area -- Dunwoody already screwed up Brook Run.

The only way you are going to stop these greedy people. All they care about is their sports and don't give a damn about wildlife and how they encroach on the experience their. It will be a quiet place for solitude thanks to evil greedy government park "stewards"

The expansion of parking and traffic into Murphy Candler Park would pose a safety danger to visitors and wildlife that wander the park in a daily basis.

Keep our park pristine!

Safety is a serious concern in the area with the road open to cars.

Parks aren't for parking!

Nowehere in the parks vote was this specific line-item mentioned, so I do not appreciate the response that the "people voted for this." We asked for improved parking for softball and baseball (which incredibly did not happen! the baseball parking lot is as rough and patchy and terrible as it ever was). We did NOT ask for sequestered parking in the middle of the park that is not visible to police poatrols. This parking would invariably be used by ne'er do wells who are not community residents and therefore have no problem coming to use the park to dump rusty fishing hooks, trash, and dirty diapers. FIX the current parking lot; do NOT add a few random parking spots in the middle of the park!

I am opposed to any cars using or parking on the loop road. It is an integral part of the park, and opening it to vehicle traffic will disrupt 5e continuity and natural beauty of the space, increase pollution, and decrease safety in the park.

I purchased my home on W. Nancy Creek Drive in 1993. Without a doubt one of the greatest attributes was, and has been the park - in particular the lake side, with natural walking trails, wildlife, etc. When the park bond was proposed, the details were NOT included. The COB officials are now going to damage this rare, natural haven, yet these specific plans were never part of the parks bond. The loop road is not needed for parking. To remove the gates to this road seems like giving the middle finger to the neighbors who have and continue to speak out against this action. Our City Council Representative asserts "The ballot box decided the issue. There is no post-election mechanism in a democracy for overturning the vote with petitions or opposition. Continuing dialogue on this same point is not productive." Council member Linley Jones has shown that representing her constituents, and especially those most grossly affected by the changes to MC Park are not worth her time. Noted! And, she wants us to vote in November to add another term of eligibility for "service" as a city council member this community - NO THANKS!

Please listen to the community and keep the loop road closed off to traffic and parking.

Shame on you Brookhaven! Stop paving greenspaces. The moment you became a city you have continued to build build build at Murphy Candler . I must count 50 signs don't do this don't do that . The community goes there to enjoy a piece of nature in the middle of the city. To feel the dirt under my shoes. I'm strongly against this!

In the interest of safety, the desires of the residents of Brookhaven, and preservation of our Park, we hope City of Brookhaven reconsiders their decision.
