I, a citizen of Brookhaven, am opposed to any cars or parking inside Murphey Candler Park, including the “loop road.”

I hereby sign this petition so that the City of Brookhaven will immediately stop the loop road parking project.

I honestly stared at the screen for a solid minute when I saw we hit one hundred signatures because I really thought this loop road issue was just bothering me in my own little bubble. It is wild to see that many people actually agree about keeping the park green and car free and now I have to figure out how to get this in front of the city folks since they clearly need to listen.

I was just looking at the count and we are almost at a hundred which is honestly wild because I really just started this on a whim while sitting in my car by the lake. If we can just get a few more people to click the link before the sun goes down maybe the city actually has to acknowledge we are paying attention.

To be clear, I want to keep all of the proposed changes from the park bond (playground updates, etc). However, I do not want the loop road changes. It is unnecessary and ruins one of the most (already) accessible, serene spots in Brookhaven.

After they ruined Brook Run with all the development, I came to Murphy Candler Park to enjoy the natural setting. You have a jewel and you cannot replace 100 year old trees in less than 100 years (duh!). Please don't develop this wonderful area.

I'm a birder, and along with my Georgia Audubon bird the park frequently. This destruction of the forest would add to the drastic decrease of birds over the last 10 years. So much of our natural habitat is destroyed that soon there will be nothing left.

Please do not reopen the loop road. I have lived in the area since 1985 (Hampton Hall for 18 years and Ashford Lake for 17) and remember all the cars and noise when it was open. I do not remember seeing the reopening of the loop road in the original plans.

By opening the loop road, the size of the park is effectively reduced. And the loop road is a pedestrian walkway, no matter what its original intent might have been. The areas accessed by the loop road are not far from existing nearby parking which is rarely, if ever, full.

Close the loop. Traffic in that green space creates danger for children and adults, opens the opportunity for crime and disruption of a peaceful play space and is in opposition to what was communicated (promised) to the voting citizens of Brookhaven.

Major typo - should be "in fairness this project is NOT supposed to remove a significant amount of trees.
