It's no secret that total control has been lost when it comes to the rising toll prices that seem to be increasing every calendar year like clock work. Is this a case of formality & not necessity?
Brooklyn residents often travel to Staten Island to visit family, friends & loved ones. Some of us may even work in Staten Island. The fact that the costs to travel to and from work has become unaffordable is not acceptable.
Residents of Brooklyn need to know; Why is there yet another toll hike? It's time the MTA provide us with charts that show us where our tolls are going? By signing this petition we as a community are requesting figures of on average how many people pay the toll per day & compare that to how much is allocated towards standard maintenance or extensive restructuring. This is simple data that needs to be released to ensure people crossing the Verrazano frequently that our hard earned money is being used correctly.
We are proud to see construction going on, jobs created & the Verrazano being rehabilitated as necessary but as citizens who have to bare the costs we should be able to know what we are paying for.

The feedback from commuters regarding these increasing transit costs continues to confirm that transparency is a necessity rather than a luxury. I am currently compiling a formal request for the maintenance expenditure reports mentioned in our initial proposal. We are awaiting a substantive response regarding these essential financial documents.

I am a 39 year old born and raised Brooklynite who moved to the Midwest last year. One of the top line reasons for the move was the unending increase in living costs, highlighted by the unreasonable hike to cross the Verrazano into Staten Island. I miss my friends, I miss my family but don't miss paying $17 to get west of Brooklyn.
Far too long residents of STATEN ISLAND/BROOKLYN have taken the brunt of the MTA /VZ bridge tolls and traffic. Toll hikes keep going up by service continues to go down. Where does all the money go and what other MTA transit services are subsidized by the VZ money?
Outright extortion, no public accounting, no disclosure, anti-trust to commerce and free passage. Hikes never add up and are completely unilateral against the working class.
I'm not sure electing the board members will solve the problem but certainly the current system isn't working as they keep raising tolls without any apparent concern for the users of the thoroughfares they put the tolls on.
Having the MTA Board members elected instead of appointed seems to be a step toward making them accountable.
Every single day, without fail, there are delays. HUGE delays. Just the other day, I went to take the 7 train home from work. I got on at Vernon- Jackson. There was zero warnings to what was about to happen. The first stop into the city from Vernon is Grand Central. This is one stop. This one stop, took literally... no exaggerating here... 2 hours. We were underground, and there is absolutely no service/ wifi or anything between this stop. There were not even any announcements for .... wait for it... an hour. We waited underground, with no indication of what was going on. This was horrible. And after an hour, the reasoning they gave was, "signal problems". Then we proceeded to be abused for yet another hour. This morning it took me 4 hours to get to work. I live off the D line. I take the D, then transfer to the 7. Believe it or not, google maps actually says it should take me 1hr 5min to get to work... I have not experienced a trip under an hour and a half... but whatever, back to this, mourning. It took 1 hr to get from 79st to 36st on the D... Again, "signal problems"... and, "this will be the last stop on this train" ... and a, "better get on that R train across the platform", announced by the conductor. So that's what we did. Rushed off one crowded train to another... and this local train going one local stop, takes about 20min... "due to an R with brake issues, all R trains running with delays" . Terrified of being stuck underground now. I leave the station. As many did. I am now at 25st in Brooklyn. My plan now is to walk to take a bus to Atlantic avenue , and from there, take a 4/5 to grand central, then take the 7. So, I walk to 5th avenue and 25st to take the B63. I wait about 2min before I decide to just walk along it's 5th ave route, and just hop on one when it rolls by, as the stops are only a few blocks apart. But, I never got on the B63. I walked from 25st and 5th ave to Atlantic avenue without even seeing one. At Atlantic now, 4/5 trains "runni

The management of the MTA needs to change with the changing complexities of today's New York City. We are bursting at the seems in population yet we have not expanded infrastructure other than the 2nd Avenue Subway and the 34th Street extension. We need a 21st century subway system to alleviate costs on the people and enhance our commute. A 21st century Bridge policy as well. Make the unelected board accountable to the people.
