Who We Are: We are people of many origins, races, religions, belief systems, political affiliations, opinions, and places. What we have in common is that we abhor hate speech against any group.
Our Purpose: Our common goal in this petition is to call out MSNBC and its parent company NBCUniversal Media for Lawrence O'Donnell's ongoing slander of the Mormon/LDS faith (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints).
What We Believe: We believe that hate speech against any broad group (based on such items as race, gender issues, religious beliefs, political leanings, and etc.) is highly divisive and hurtful to the common goals of all humanity. We believe that such attacks have no place within a civilized society. We believe that attempting to hide behind free speech rights while espousing hatred is completely contrary to the intent of the framers who created it. We believe that people should be held accountable for publicly spreading hatred for others.
What We Ask:
1- We would like both MSNBC and NBCUniversal to quickly and publicly renounce O'Donnell's recent and past hate speech against the Mormon/LDS faith (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints).
2- Secondly, we would like Lawrence O'Donnell, MSNBC, and NBCUniversal to publicly and prominently apologize to the Mormon/LDS faith (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) and all its members for the remarks made by Lawrence O'Donnell.
3- Further, we would like MSNBC to publicly and substantially discipline Lawrence O'Donnell with more than just a slap on the wrist.
4- Lastly, we would like to see MSNBC and NBCUniversal implement better editorial control over its programming, in order to avoid all future hate speech against any group, particularly false or misleading hate speech.
What We Will Do If Ignored: If Lawrence O'Donnell, MSNBC, and NBCUniversal do not comply with our desires, we will have to assume that MSNBC, and NBCUniversal embrace the hate speech put forth by Lawrence O'Donnell, and we will use our own free speech to show our displeasure with the companies. Firstly, we will make every attempt to avoid watching those channels and visiting those websites, instead watching the channels and visiting the websites of competitors. We will then contact every company that advertises with any of NBCUniversal's companies (NBC, USA Network, Syfy, CNBC, MSNBC, NBC.com, MSNBC.com, iVillage, PictureBox Movies, Bravo, Telemundo Television Studios, The Weather Channel, Hulu, etc.) and inform them that we will be avoiding their products, and why we are doing so.
We sincerely hope that MSNBC and NBCUniversal will demonstrate their willingness to contribute to the good of humanity by complying with our desires in this matter and going forward. Otherwise we will have to assume that they are consciously putting profits above civility, money above humanity, and will exercise our collective viewing and purchasing power to voice our disagreement and displeasure.
