The MPES PTA Board is recommending that the MPES PTA be dissolved and a Parent Teacher Organization ("PTO") be formed in its place.

We would dissolve the MPES PTA as of June 30, 2019 and the PTO would be effective immediately to avoid any interruption in the activities and programs for the 2019-2020 school year.

IMES, KES, JJMS, JJHS all have PTO's that have been operating successfully for years. There are many benefits to forming a PTO. As you may know we are bound by NYSPTA laws that in the past have taken away Before/After School Enrichment programs which we have worked very hard to start again. This year we were unable to pay the transportation fees for school trips under NYS PTA regulations. Therefore, we would like to join our KLSD community and also become a PTO. With a PTO everyone will automatically be a member of our organization. We are the only school in our community that is a PTA. This change should be seamless for our students and committee chairs and would allow more flexibility.

In order to dissolve the MPES PTA, we need to show that MPES PTA members agree. If you are in favor of doing so, and if you are a current PTA member*, Please sign the petition.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Monica DiMatteo at [email protected] or Veronica Skrelja at [email protected].

*NOTE: PTA membership is by individual only; its not a family membership. This petition MUST be signed by the actual PTA MEMBER.

Updates

April 15, 2019

I have been hearing from so many of you who are frustrated by the constant red tape restricting our school enrichment programs. Moving to a PTO structure is the only way to ensure our kids get the field trips and activities they deserve without being held back by outside regulations.

April 15, 2019

Seeing this level of support confirms that our community is ready to move past these restrictive regulations to better serve our children. Your encouragement gives me confidence that we are making the right choice for the upcoming school year as we push to regain control over our own programs.

Seems like a smart move to avoid all that red tape. Thanks for putting in the work to get this sorted.

YES. The PTA rules have been so frustrating for our school trips. Excited for the PTO.

About time we got with the program like the other schools in the district. Glad to see this happening.

Finally! Sick of the extra hoops we have to jump through. This will make things way easier for the kids.
