Kruse PTA has been discussing switching from a PTA (Parent Teacher Association) to a PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) for some time now. After much thought, the current PTA Executive Committee has unanimously decided that this switch makes the most sense for our school.

In accordance with the Illinois PTA bylaws, a dissolution requires a signed petition by current PTA members. We are asking that you please sign the included petition to dissolve the Kruse Education Center PTA.

For those unfamiliar with the difference between a PTA and a PTO, I hope the following information will be helpful:

The PTA is a national organization with affiliations on the state and local level. The PTA has extensive bylaws and requires that we pay a percentage of membership fees to the larger PTA organization.

A PTO is not affiliated with any organization. There is a network of PTO units and resources available to assist in running individual organizations, but each PTO governs themselves and writes their own bylaws. In addition, all membership dues collected will be kept to benefit the children of our school.

We feel that becoming a PTO will be a great benefit to our Kruse community. We are excited and optimistic about this proposed change.

Please sign your name in efforts to support our petition for this important change! Thank you so much for help!

Updates

May 22, 2020

The Executive Committee has spent recent days drafting the proposed bylaws for our new organization to ensure a smooth transition. We appreciate the thoughtful questions many of you have submitted regarding how this change will specifically impact our school funding and local operations.

May 22, 2020

The level of engagement regarding our transition to a PTO confirms the widespread desire for local autonomy within our school community. This momentum demonstrates that keeping our raised funds directly within the Kruse classrooms resonates with parents and staff alike.
