Keep the early release day on Fridays. Wednesdays being midweek are very difficult for working parents. Did everyone get a chance to take the survey? I took the survey, however; I have heard several didn’t know about it.

I think part of this decision was because it would be more convenient forcthecteachers to attend their continuing education courses on a Wednesday rather than a Friday, is that correct? And the other part was because many kids miss school when half days are on Fridays, so putting it on a Wednesday would help to resolve that issue, is that also accurate?
I think it's important to go with what would be more convenient for the majority. Since the majority is the students, it sounds like Fridays would be the better choice.

Fridays work best for early release days! Working families plus preschool schedules (usually closed on Fridays)

It is a huge inconvenience for this to happen in the middle of the week. We already have early release 1-2 Fridays a month so the easiest transition would be to have these half days remain on Fridays.
this is a hardship and the community I'm working parents especially. I do not feel that we were informed of such an important decision adequately. I myself found out through a child that spoke with the teacher and then told her parent. This is not okay, this is not the way anyone should be finding this type of information out that would affect both the student and parent, the family is a whole with these one day a week half day schedule. I am not in agreement with this schedule. I feel that this will drive many parents also to leave the public school and look at other options private or Charter. This is just not a good fit for a community. I am also an educator myself and I can do adequately my PD hours without having to take off early half a day every week basically. You need to consider everyone's opinion before going further with this regardless of the research done and how this would help teachers. The other thing I am very upset about is I believe in the minutes there were okay's and accommodations made for teachers children that would be on campus during those PD hours. I believe it was noted they would get free care. That is also not an okay thing to do while you leave other parents scrambling and I'm sure the Aftercare is going to be Fuller than it is now. Also there are no options for high schoolers who have no ride and no means to get to and from school There's so many factors that would affect this community this is just not a good fit.

I sent an email asking for these results and asking a few other questions. I was told my email was forwarded to Dr. Finch, I never received a reply. Very disappointing.

How would sporting events and practices work on an early release Wed when teachers, who are also coaches, are in a training.

A lot of children come from divorced parents which is the case in our home. Early release Fridays make it so much easier for those families to get to their other parents home for the weekend.

The typically parent work schedule does not allow for half days in the middle of the week. Friday’s are much more flexible for most, with many working either a 4-10 schedule or from a home office. Please move the early release dats to Friday!

I talked to the superintendent, Dr. Finch 623-445-5002. He said the reasoning is to get teachers to participate in meetings to enhance the educational process. When they have meetings on Fridays the teachers don't show up and leave for long weekends. Kind of crazy to put the burden on the parents because the teachers refuse to show up for their staff meetings. I don't think many of us would be able to skip mandatory meetings at our jobs for very long. He said there is only so much they can do to enforce them to show up without the teachers revolting.
He said there was a vote taken by the parents on this and we approved Wednesday. I voted in a survey regarding this and I voted to keep the day as it is now which is Friday. Dr. Finch said the results of the vote approved switching to Wednesday. That seemed peculiar to me since everyone I talked to prefers Fridays. So I transferred to Amanda in the curriculum department to ask for a copy of the vote. She emailed me the results. They are very misleading because the results approve Wednesday based on Friday NOT being an option. That is not the survey I voted on. Something is not right here. I request a re-vote.
