Michigan Schools return back to school before summer has ended! We are committed to the education of our children but the rest of the country still abides by the after Labor day rule. With the back to school date of August 20 the kids are losing the month of August for summer break. Starting back to school shopping and the required supply list while the Dog Days of summer are still in full swing. This is precious time for our children to spend with families before the hustle and bustle of the new school year begins. Lets give them a break and send them back after Labor Day an age old tradition of our pasts!!! I kept record of all the half days and full days off for in service days for our educators last school year, I found out that at least every month the kids had one or sometimes two half days off and one full day. I think they would rather have that in the summer when the weather is beautiful and they can run and play. We all know by living in Michigan how important the sunshine is when we get it that is. I am submitting this to the Walled Lake Consolidated School Board of Education by December 31, 2003. I am asking them to consider changing the return to school date.
