Dear Superintendent Turnbull,
As Parents from the Soquel Union Education School District it is our desire to support our teachers and acknowledge their professional observations and opinions when it comes to planning and delivering instruction to students.
Many teachers have told us, for a few years now, that they observe and experience that the minimum day on Wednesdays is a disruption to their planning and delivery of instruction. In addition, many families are burdened by the mid-week minimum day, which imposes scheduling challenges. Parents have advocated, alongside their teachers, in support of changing the minimum back to Friday. Parents and teachers asked for the change of the minimum day last year but the outgoing superintendent felt that the new superintendent should make those changes. We support our teachers professional and first-hand experience in planning and teaching our children and ask that you also show your support for their professional needs as well as the needs of the students and families in SUESD by moving the minimum day.
We welcome any questions and feed back and look forward to the opportunity to participate in planning.

I have been hearing from so many of you about how the Wednesday schedule interferes with your children's learning and your own family routines. We are currently preparing to present these stories directly to the school board so they understand that this is about more than just a calendar preference for our teachers and our families.

Seeing so many parents from across the district join this movement proves that we all share the same frustrations with the current mid-week schedule. My kids deserve better consistency in their learning and this surge of support shows that the district can no longer ignore our clear request for a change.

Yes! This will also reward the hard working teachers for the days and hours they put in, including the unpaid ones. Not to mention absences might go down with the shorter pre-weekend school day.
Please change the minimum day back to Friday. I work Mon-Fri specifically so that I could spend more time with my kids. This shift has meant that my work day on Wednesday is filled with Doc/dentist etc appts, which has been very stressful for me and made my work on Wednesday not as efficient as it could be...adding more stress to our family.
I personally feel having minimum days on Fridays will help with better attendance numbers all around for the district as well as for families needing the extra time for longer weekends to deal with family matters out of town as well as personal getaways. Thank you for the consideration.
Fridays were so much better for our family. A break midweek breaks up the week in an exhausting way for kids and interrupts the flow of academics for the week. Please insider bringing Fridays back!
I would love to see the minimum day changed back to Friday. The mid week minimum day causes a consistent strain. My children attend Santa Cruz Gardens and New Brighton Middle School.

Elizabeth Spilman is my daughter, my family like many others often times have short work days on Friday but never on Wednesdays, I would like the chance to have my daughter's minimum day be an opportunity to spend quality family time together

Sorry to be contrarian, but due to after school care (not located on-site) being offered for Wed. half days (and not Fridays) it would be very difficult to make this work as a working parent.
