We think Commissioner Mike Thompson needs to resign.

Commissioner Thompson used his racial prejudice while telling Hardee County voters not to vote for African Americans to sit next to him on the County Commission.

Commissioner Thompson asked a citizen who he was voting for on this past Nov 4 election. The person said, “Not Birge.” Commissioner Thompson said, “You’re not voting for that Ni***r are you.” Then he added, “He doesn’t have a job and he doesn’t have any money.”

Included in the group of four was a young lady who happens to be married to an African American and has biracial children. She has suffered greatly because of this man. We all have. The “We The People Rally” of Nov 22 came about because of Commissioner Thompson’s admitted racism.

At least twenty people have spoken directly to Commissioner Thompson at three Commission meetings asking him to resign. He has yet to say one word in six weeks. In an advertisement he placed in the Herald Advocate, he calls his actions a, “POOR CHOICE OF WORDS.”

Commissioner Thompson did much more than tell a racially slanted joke. He stated his firm belief that no one of the African American race deserves to be on the Hardee County Commission. Also, no person that is unemployed and no person that is not rich. We do not call this a “Poor Choice of Words.”
