It is paramount we bring to our legislatures and the public’s attention what our employees are up against in the State of Michigan. None of our dedicated DNR Park Rangers in our Michigan State Parks system have received adequate PPE which should be entitled to them during an emergent contagious disease event and or pandemic. This right is clearly delineated in the MSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 22 Health and Safety § (I). Our State Employees are being asked to step up to the challenge and serve the citizens of the State of Michigan and I believe they are currently displaying their dedication and commitment. These employees are being asked to serve the Michigan citizens during a global pandemic and are being put in a work environment in which is detrimental to their health, their families health, and the public’s health by not receiving the proper entitled protections. The Coronavirus can be contagious for up to 3 hours airborne and up to 72 hours on some surfaces including plastic and steel. These hard working dedicated public servants are being asked to maintain the infrastructure, change trash cans, pick up litter, clean restrooms, respond to emergencies within our Michigan State Parks while being exposed to COVID 19 or even possibly spreading the virus further. Please help these dedicated public servants get the Personnel Protective Equipment they deserve! Governor Whitmer has chosen them to be essential public employees, let’s get them the protection they deserve. We are asking the State of Michigan to supply all necessary PPE or immediately stop any duties with public contact by the Rangers until it is able to be supplied.
