Name Michael Garin Poet Laureate of Manhattan
WHEREAS, Michael Garin (“Garin”) is a tunesmith, poet, singer, songwriter, raconteur and bon vivant who serenades the virtues of New York City in both music and verse on a daily basis; and
WHEREAS, Garin writes and publishes a new poem every day to
a huge and appreciative audience, celebrating all that is quintessentially
Manhattan: wit, style, and a sophistication born of New York’s ever-changing melting
pot of diverse cultures; and
WHEREAS, we who read his verses over our morning Café Bustelo
and Cronut are enlivened by Garin’s odes to New York City and wish to express
our gratitude in a concrete and meaningful way;
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, do hereby request that the title
Poet Laureate of Manhattan — or at the very least, Poet Laureate of 54th Street
— be bestowed upon him, in recognition of his irreplaceable and vital voice, which
marries the classic sophistication of Café Society with the exuberance of the
diversity of the modern City.
