We are in support of the widening of the dam but NOT lowering the dam.
Lowering the dam may benefit Lower Genesee Lake a little but would be a problem for Middle Genesee Lake.
We have lived on the lake for 3 years and have already gone through a problem with low levels on the lake where we couldn't even get our boat in and out of the lake and had to use a neighbors launch. Also, this past season where we had a month or so with no wake on the lake. Widening the dam will help for flooding times and to keep the lakes at good levels and protect properties. I also think they should consider something on Middle Genesee Lake that will regulate the lake level so it doesn't continue to flow into Lower Genesee Lake where they are having the problem with high levels. This would keep our lake at a good level and not overflow Lower Genesee Lake.

Having been on the lake for more than 20 years, the highs can be high, but the lows can be lower. It is unthinkable to allow more water out, just to allow a few boaters to to rip up the lake. It is very short sighted to allow water out that you cannot ever get back. Keep the level where it is.

My husband and I are both OPPOSED to widening the opening at all, much less lowering the weir dam elevation level. Middle Genesee Lake has changed dramatically in the nine years we've been here. There is much more vegetation growing in the lake and the lake appears to be warmer, which to me seems like a direct effect of lower water levels over the past few years. Middle Genesee Lake is a lake, not a pond. Any attempt to lower the level feels detrimental to both human and water/wildlife. It may also have an economic impact on property valuations if man made attempts to adjust this water level over compensation and we end up with a much smaller body of water. We don't support any additional work or costs to change the nature of this lake.
