The world is overrun with plastic. What is terrifying about this product is that it is the least biodegradable substance on this planet, so hard to break down that scientists don't even know what it's life span is (estimates range from 500,000-1,000,000 years). Meaning that plastic ever created, spanning back to the 1930s, is still around, floating in our oceans and crowding our dumps. The problem cannot be reversed overnight, but it will take a collective effort to start. To help fight against this monumental concern, one can do many things, including but not limited to:

carrying a cloth shopping bag, putting all your produce into one or two baggies, reusing plastic bags, carrying around reusable bottles, investing in non-plastic products, giving up saran wrapped TV dinners

One can also campaign to their lawmakers, asking for more plastic recycling centers in their area.
