The undersigned, residing in the Town of Mendon, Massachusetts hereby petition the Mendon Board of Selectmen as follows: As registered voters residing in the Town of Mendon we ask the members of the Board of Selectmen to approve the Mendon-Upton School Committee’s budget request of $28,693,193 dollars. We further ask that you allow the residents of the Town of Mendon to vote for a second time to see if they will allow for a proposition 2 ½ override to help support this budget in it’s full amount. We ask that the amount put before voters be no less than $490,272.00 dollars. We feel that due to the fact that there is new information available to voters the people of Mendon deserve the right to make an informed decision at the ballot box. The layoff of 37 teachers, loss of instructional programs and classes, reductions in staff, loss of all sports programs, loss of extra curricular activities and class sizes of 30 plus students are now clearly defined. The fact that the Mendon-Upton Teachers Association had voted for a one year wage freeze that would have returned $420,000.00 dollars to the FY 2011 budget is now widely known. The impact this will have on our property values has also been clearly articulated and is now fully understood by many. In addition the outcome of Upton’s override vote is now known. It is for the reasons outlined above that we respectfully ask for your support.

Seeing 250 names on this petition is deeply moving because I know how many neighborhood families are terrified about these looming teacher layoffs. This support shows that our town cares about the future of our classrooms and I am grateful to each of you for acknowledging what is at stake for our children.

Seeing one hundred people sign this in such a short time shows exactly how much our community values these teachers and programs. I know how painful these cuts feel for our families and it is heartening to see so many neighbors agree that we deserve another chance to vote.

I didnt realize how much the teachers were willing to give up. we need to support them since they are trying to help us out.
The sports programs and clubs keep our kids out of trouble. losing everything is not an option for our town.
PLEASE put this back on the ballot. we need to keep our schools strong.
Class sizes of 30 plus is just way to many for one teacher to handle. the kids deserve better than this.
37 teachers?? that is insane. we voted before but now we have the real info. give us the chance to fix this mess.

Let us vote again. property values are going to tank if we let the schools fall apart like this. do the right thing.
