The local council officially approved the implementation of the 20mph zone along with the requested crossing upgrades. We will monitor the installation phase to ensure the equipment meets the safety specifications we outlined in our proposal.

There have been a number of incidents involving cars failing to stop at the zebra crossing, outside St Urban's Primary & Cardinal Heenan High schools, when pedestrians are waiting or even crossing, results in some near misses. Currently the speed limit is 30 mph. LCC plans to make all roads outside all schools into 20mph zones, those with a higher risk are being prioritised. The lower speed limit make drivers more aware of the crossings and pedestrians.
We would also like to see road safety measures at the roundabout at the top of Church Lane and beyond.
Turning left onto Parkside Road is a blind corner and straight on we have the issue of speeding all the way down to the bottom of Church Lane.There is currently no safe place to cross.The council have stated that there must be casualties before action can be taken. We do not want to wait for one of our children to be injured or worse before the council takes action.
In short, we want;
·20 mph speed limit out side St Urban's School/Cardinal Heenan High School
·Pelican crossing /Lollipop person at the zebra crossing
·Speed restrictions further down Tongue Lane at the roundabout and beyond, down Church Lane (bumps/speed warning signal/speed cameras)
·A safe crossing beyond the roundabout

Many drivers are fully aware of this crossing yet refuse to stop. I have even been on the crossing with my chidren and experienced cars which have stopped for pedestrians being over taken
I strongly support this petition; every school day my children and I have to cross Church Lane which is very dangerous given the speed of vehicles along this road. Would welcome traffic bumps or some road safety measures to ensure safe crossing of this road.
on new years eve my son and I were very nearly knocked down on church lane by a car travelling too fast we ended up calling police and ambulance services. it is EXTREMELY easy to drive too fast especially downhill on this road, one which is well usdd by my famiky as well as countless others.
We cross Church Lane near the junction with Green Road three times a week and regularly witness cars travelling too fast. There should be a twenty mile zone in Meanwood, linking shops and schools. This is a residential area, and thriving community, not a ratrun-cum-race track.
The zebra crossing is in the wrong place, cars are trying to go into cardinal heenan and trying to get out, this causes really bad congestion and makes the crossing very dangerous, I feel it should be moved further down so the pupils can get off the bus at the busstop and be directly able to cross the road safely.
Our car culture is destroying our society. This is true regardless of casualties.
Many people have highlighted the key issue which is that there are many dangerous / inconsiderate drivers. I'm not convinced that a blanket 20mph limit will solve this. This will just be ignored by those drivers that already ignore the 30mph limit / zebra crossing. The 20mph zone on Stainbeck Lane is ignored much of the time, as for most of the time it isn't relevant. A 20mph zone for those times when people are going to / from school during term time would be better. For much of the day, and much of the year a 30mph limit is appropriate here. Many countries have 20mph "when lights flash" signs - these would be more sensible, as they would alert you to the change in speed limit. I would be in favour of these. No one would have an excuse for not driving slow and carefully when lights indicate it necessary. The police should then enforce this to take careless drivers off all roads, not just our local area. At the Parkside Road roundabout, compulsory stop signs could be installed and, importantly, enforced. Given the number of dangerous drivers that ignore the 30mph limit, why would they respect a 20mph limit on Church Lane? This is a problem area, but properly enforced speed limits and compulsory stops surely would help. If people kept to the 30mph limit on this road, that seems appropriate. Fine those that speed down that road at 40 and 50mph - they're the ones likely to speed along Stonegate Road as well. The bad drivers here are likely to be bad drivers elsewhere too. We need the police to enforce the rules of the road, and to fine / educate the drivers.

I live on church Lane and cars do speed excessively in this residential area. Drivers sweep round the roundabout without care and indication. As a frequent pedestrian with a child who walks to cardinal Heenan I am in favour of anything that can slow the traffic down and make it safer for all of us to cross.
