PLEASE REJECT THE CURRENT PROPOSED 2008-2009 SCHOOL CALENDAR: There is discussion among parents in the Mountain Brook school system regarding the changes in the proposed 2008-2009 academic school calendar. The concern is that the compressed summer vacation compromises activities families normally schedule. Summer camps, vacations, summer jobs, summer internships, and advanced study courses that enhance college admissions are all impacted. Many members of our community have written letters and signed petitions stating dissatisfaction of the proposed calendar. Several alternatives created by parents were presented to the Calendar Committee at the January 8th meeting. However, the committee continues to recommend a revised shortened summer break. Unless we object, the school board will approve the proposed calendar at the 3:30, Monday, January 14 meeting. PLEASE TELL THE BOARD TO REJECT THE CURRENT PROPOSED 2008-2009 SCHOOL CALENDAR AND SIGN THIS PETITION.
