I'm an Australian watching this unfold, following the radio broadcasts, reading the Maynooth School Groups page. I'd like to say that the two topshelf schools in my area run on a Junior/Senior school model. They push out the most well educated kids in our area. It astounds me that anyone anywhere in the world would try to put across to parents anywhere that building two seperate schools side by side is a sensible idea that will not create discrimination and division. As you say in Ireland, it's complete bollocks. In Australia we have a more direct term that you would possibly find offensive. The eyes of the world are on you and we're seeing that even in Ireland the Minister for Education is not interested in what's good for his communities. Give the community what they want. It would be in the best interests of the town, and its schools, to have an inclusive, progressive 2nd level school system rather than the proposed divisive, and inevitably competitive solution as proposed by the department.

There is no sense in 2 separate schools, one will eventually have a better reputation than the other, it will cause problems with parents trying to get their children into that school, and will separate friends from each other. A junior/ senior school makes far more sense and is better for the community.

With two boys in Maynooth BNS I know that two schools is going to drive apart friends who would otherwise continue as classmates. I have yet to hear at what level (educationally, financially, politically of otherwise) two schools makes any sense!

If it's not broke don't fix it! MPP is one of the best schools in the country. Dividing MPP in two would divide the town, the community and the students. It would only be a matter of time before rivalry would boil over.

I would like to see the two new schools as a Junior/Senior school. I feel the if two separate schools were built then there would be competition between the two sets of students, which could lead to bullying or fighting.

Past pupil of MPP. Having two schools on the same grounds is ridiculous. Senior and Junior schools would work better. Why separate the students? It'll lead to rivalry and potentially one school will be considered superior academically to the other.
